Devon and Cornwall Police have raised concerns over the Promise School’s application for temporary buildings (2212/26/FUL) as they fear the design could increase the likelihood of anti-social behaviour and bullying.

Police have noted that the current layout of the pre-fab buildings means there are four narrow alleyways with dead ends which they say could become spaces where anti-social behaviour or bullying takes place.

They have also raised concerns over the location of the reception which they advise be positioned from where all main entrances be viewed. Currently, this is not the case.

The police have suggested that access to the alleyways between the buildings be restricted and have also recommended additional security measures.

These include CCTV and intruder alarm installation, access control to staff-only areas, and ensuring that first aid equipment is secured and all ground floor doors, windows and glazing meet minimum security standards.

The application will now be considered by West Devon Borough Council.
