WITH a third major production in less than 12 months to go on tour mid-March, Tavonians Theatre Company have certainly returned to centre stage!

The Tavonians’ latest production Shadowlands is a beautiful and moving drama about life and loss, but ultimately, love. The poignant but humorous play follows the relationship of CS Lewis – Oxford don and author of The Chronicles of Narnia – and American poet Joy Davidman through an unlikely story of late flowering love and mortality.

Lewis, living as a distinguished academic bachelor at Oxford University, is comfortable in his life, secure in his beliefs about God and His plan for the world. Then the unexpected happens. Joy and her young son enter his life, and he falls in love.

Written by William Nicholson, Shadowlands poses the classic questions about religion, pain and love. Originally produced as a TV drama, it was adapted for the stage, and hailed as one of the most extraordinary love stories ever told.

Following its award winning success on Broadway and the West End stage, the play was finally released as a film in 1993 starring Anthony Hopkins and was awarded multiple BAFTA and US awards.

Performances start at Sourton Village Hall on Sunday March 12, followed by performances at Tavistock Wharf, PrimRaf Theatre at Callington, Meavy Village Hall and Okehampton’s Charter Hall. During all performances, a collection will be made for Macmillan Cancer Support, with a special charity performance at The Wharf on March 14.

What comes next for Tavonians Theatre Company?

Productions are now being planned running to the end of 2018, ranging from shows suitable for a younger audience and the young at heart, as well as fantastic modern dramatisations of real life events and individuals.

The company has been fortunate over the past 12 months in being able to choose some exciting and interesting plays at the same time as finding some new actors and welcoming back previous performers.

The company was delighted to learn that its success has been recognised in the nomination of its production My Boy Jack for a National Operatic and Dramatic Association Award for Best Drama Production 2016 in the South West region. The show was staged last May.

The company is looking to maintain its momentum and continue to drive itself forward. To that end it needs more people to become involved so that it can perform the productions currently being researched and continue to stage exciting and challenging shows.
