Shaldon Optimists v Chagford

CHAGFORD owed much to an outstanding innings by Divan Morais in setting a competitive target.

Batting first they quickly lost Paul Penberthy for a duck, but recovered  as Jon Wright and Divan Morais advanced the score to 42 before Wright was bowled by Carl Woolnough for 6.

Morais and skipper Del Lammonby (17) had a quickfire stand of 51 to take the score to 93 before Lammonby was brillantly run out. Mike Wright joined Morais in a stand 88 before he was well caught for 27 and the innings finally closed at 195-4 in the 20 overs.

Morais finished with 128 not out as he dominated the stands and the bowling — including 14 fours and four sixes in a brutal innings off 70 balls.

Shaldon too lost early wickets as McKenzie (6) C Blackburn (0) and Shane Bowler (2) had all gone with the score at 31.

But Jamie Day rescued their innings and Carl Woolnough was bowled for a useful 26 by Luke Mortimore. At this stage Shaldon looked to be well on the way to victory at 119-4 after 11 overs.

However, the introduction of Will Lammonby into the attack paid dividends as he bowled the threatening Jamie Day for a hard hit 64 off  34 balls off only 32 balls, and went to clean bowl Fred Bond (5) and Jay Tuffnell (0).

With a run out and two quick wickets for 14 year-old Tom Eglinton the Shaldon innings closed at 162 to give Chagford a victory, which at one time looked unlike, by 33 runs.

Billy Lammonby finished with 3-39 and Tom Eglinton 2-7.
