Devon seconds D (West)

Dartington and Totnes seconds v Chagford seconds

TAKING the field with without main bowler Paul Wakefield and with a side depleted by first team calls, the Chagford attack bowled tightly, with the opening Dartington and Totnes pair of  Paul Raven and Mike Symms batting confidentally.

It took time to make a breakthrough — with Nigel Letheren dismissing Raabven for 20, Nikusal Jinar for a duck and Liam Bradbury, clean bowling Symms for 18 as the home side found themselves at at  53-3.

It was at  this stage that a delayed Paul Wakefield took to the field and made an immediate impact — in  his nine overs he took 5-27 to reduce Dartington and Totnes to 146 all out.

Father and son Chris Filor and 15 year-old Freddie, opened the batting for Chagford.

Freddie batted with maturity beyong his years, taking the attack to the Dartington and Totnes bowlers. Helped by his father at the other end, he reached 147 in just 28.5 overs to give Chagford victory by 10 wickets.

Freddie made 93 not out, including 10 fours and one six in an impressive showing to add to his immaculate display behind the stumps during the home innings — an excellent all round performance by the teenager.

Chris Filor finished on 48 not out, despite being handicapped by his leg injury.

Chagford 20 points, Dartington and Totnes 2 points.
