A GLORIOUS weekend with just the right weather for camping was enjoyed by Mid Devon Cubs near Dunsford recently.

Karen Morris and her team rolled out a back to basics camp skills programme introducing the cubs to new skills such as lashing and knots, campfires, cooking and woggle making.

Thanks to the warm weather most cubs enjoyed a dip in the river and the day ended with a good old-fashioned campfire with skits (short plays) learned and performed by the cubs and the usual campfire songs led by Paul Charlton and his team of Devon Explorer Scouts.

Sunday was spent creating gadgets and displays for the woggles. The highlight of the weekend was most definitely the annual water fight which was appreciated by all in the hot weather.

One cub from each pack received an award for skills and behaviour on camp and several cubs received their Chief Scout Bronze and Silver awards.

The major award for the weekend, the Ibbotson shield was awarded to Tedburn and Cheriton pack for their outstanding excellence for the weekend and they go on to represent the group in the Devon Cub camp.

Cub scouts are aged eight to ten and a half years. Mid Devon has many packs with the most recently set up in Winkleigh and Bow.
