MEMBERS of Okehampton Running Club took part in two races this weekend achieving some good results. Despite a pessimistic forecast the running conditions were perfect – dry, mild and still.

Andy Vallance was placed fourth overall in the Dawlish Coasters' 'Oh My Obelisk' - a tough off road race involving steep climbs.

Roger Voaden, Mervyn Rice and Marilyn Cooper went to Plymouth for Armada Athletics Forum's Plymouth Hoe 10 road race which took place over a new route. There were some problems with marshalling causing some of the leaders to go the wrong way early on into the race, and a scenic diversion up a spiral staircase near the end.

Roger completed in under an hour coming fourth overall and first in his age group and this was after running 22 miles the day before! Marilyn also came first in her age group. Both these members have won awards in all their races this year.

ORC times: Roger Voaden 59.44 (first male veteran 45) Mervyn Rice 1.17.27, Marilyn Cooper 1.24.11 (first female veteran V55).
