The country goes to the polls today (Thursday) to decide the next government — polling stations are open until 10pm with the first results expected at around 2am on Friday (December 13).

In Torridge and West Devon, Conservative Geoffrey Cox will be hoping to retain the seat he has held for 14 years. He will be standing against Labour candidate Siobhan Strode, Lib Dem David Chalmers, Chris Jordan from the Green Party and independent Bob Wootten.

In Central Devon, Conservative Mel Stride, who has represented the constituency since 2010, will be standing against Lisa Robillard-Webb of the Labour Party, Alison Eden of the Lib Dems and Andy Williamson from the Green Party.

In South East Cornwall, Conservative Sheryll Murray, the area’s MP for nine years, will be standing against Gareth Derrick of the Labour Party, Lib Dem Colin Martin, Martha Green of the Green Party and Jay Latham of the Liberal Party.

Whilst Brexit is likely to be the deciding issue for many, climate change, the NHS and in-work poverty are other issues high on the agenda. Times reporters will be at the counts at Okehampton (Central Devon) and Langtree (Torridge and West Devon) and will keep you posted on social media as events unfold.
