A COUPLE from Sheepwash who are fundraising for their grandson have had their efforts boosted by Okehampton Round Table.

The organisation has donated £200 to Buster and Anna Jones, who have been raising money for their grandson Jenson Tucker. As part of their fundraising, they promoted their efforts at Glastonbury Festival and at Okehampton Show.

Normally, Round Table welcomes applications for donations, and then decides to support charities and fundraisers on a case by case basis.

The organisation's Louis Enderson read about fundraising efforts for Jenson in the Times, and having taken a newspaper clipping to a recent Round Table meeting, members decided it was such a worthy cause they decided to donate £200.

James Stevens from Okehampton Round Table said: 'When we heard about fundraising for Jenson, we thought it such a worthy cause that we would donate what we could to help their fundraising efforts.

'Having met Anna and Buster, they are such nice people and Okehampton Round Table are pleased to help them.'

Anna Jones said: 'It was decided to let us have a cheque for £200 for Jenson's fund as they thought it was a very worthy cause. We are absolutely delighted.'

Jenson, aged two, was diagnosed with spastic diplegia, a form of cerebral palsy, at six months old. Shortly after he turned one year old he was also diagnosed with epilepsy.

The couple are aiming to raise £65,000 so Jenson can travel to America and have a selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR) operation. The procedure aims to reduce spasms caused by Jenson's condition. The money will also be put toward physiotherapy and special equipment to help get him on his feet following the operation.

The couple went to the Glastonbury Festival in June. Their Devon flag, with Sheepwash emblazoned on it, and a flag promoting the fundraising for Jenson, was prominent throughout the BBC coverage of the festival, particularly during coverage of the Pyramid Stage on the Saturday.
