FUN was had by all who visited Okehampton Inspiration Festival on Saturday afternoon (October 22), which managed to raise £503 for charity.

The festival held at the Ockment Centre in Okehampton used the centre’s gardens, main building and hall to promote local clubs, charities, businesses and activities while also raising funds for Change the Lives Foundation — a charity which helps children in Bangladesh to have better physical, recreational, ed-ucational and mental well-being.

Organiser Rebecca Goodenough said: ‘The festival was great and I was so surprised at the turn out, it was busy all day!

‘The festival was opened by the lovely Christine Marsh and visited by the lovely Town Mayor Jan Goffey. We had great food, lovely stalls and fabulous fun with the Children’s Centre, Okehampton Ladies’ Circle, Okehampton Lions Club, Bouncy Town and so much more.

‘Our hidden tea room managed to raise £503 for the charity. We sold cups of tea, coffee and fruit juice for 50p and allowed visitors to refill their cups for free, which made the day a very affordable one for many local families.’

Rebecca expressed thanks to everyone involved for making the day such a great success and for helping to raise money for the children in Bangladesh.

Change the Lives Foundation is a voluntary organisation which identifies and supports children living on the railways in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Many of these children are without appropriate accommodation, edu-cation, health care and guidance.

The money raised by the Okehampton Inspiration Festival will help to buy essential medical supplies for these children as well as help to fund their education.

Okehampton Ins-piration Festival will be holding another event in February 2017, one which again will invite local charities and clubs to put up a stall at the event free of charge. For more information contact Rebecca on 07398 720015.
