THE Okehampton branch of the Royal British Legion is looking to elect a new chairman and a new treasurer at its forthcoming AGM.

The meeting takes place at 8pm at the Legion Social Club on Station Road on Monday, November 27 and is open to all branch members.

The organisation provides welfare assistance to both current and former service personnel and their dependants.

The meeting will discuss the branch’s activities over the past 12 months and its future plans, as well as reporting on the accounts and appointing new branch officers.

Branch secretary Peter Williams said: ‘Unfortunately, there is a very real ongoing need for the legion to provide welfare assistance to an increasing number of veterans, especially those experiencing health problems, both physical and mental.

‘This help has a direct impact on the legion’s resources. It is essential, therefore, that the legion enhances public awareness of the help it provides to the men and women who serve, and have served, their country so unselfishly.

‘The branch meeting will provide details of the activities of the past twelve months and future intentions as well as reports on the accounts and the appointment of branch officers.

‘Two posts fall vacant this year, namely branch chairman and branch treasurer. Members are reminded that a competent committee must be elected if the branch is to continue. It is essential, therefore, that a chairman and treasurer be appointed at this meeting. Other members of the committee have indicated their willingness to continue in post.’

Items for consideration at the meeting, as well as nominations for the committee, should be submitted to the branch secretary by Friday, November 24, email [email protected]
