Students at Okehampton College and Tavistock College are celebrating after receiving their A-level results today, with many now preparing to move on to university, apprenticeships or employment.

The two schools have announced some strong results from this year’s cohort. Okehampton College has seen increases in average grade, average point score, and the number of students achieving AAB at A-Level. One hundred per cent of the chemistry and mathematics achieved A* to C grades and three students studying the National Extended Certificate in Sport gained distinction* grades.

Seventy-two per cent of the students at Tavistock College achieved A* to C grades, with 30 per cent achieving A* to A grades. The college recorded particularly strong outcomes in Physics, Chemistry, Extended Project Quality and English Literature and high Level 3 BTEC results in Travel and Tourism and Creative Media.

Okehampton College student Stanley Frangleton, who got A*s in mathematics, further mathematics and biology and has secured a place at Bristol University to study mathematics and computer science, said: “I’m shocked and excited about my results. I’m going to Bristol University now to study mathematics and computer science. I hope to use this to become a software developer in the future.”

Tavistock student Oliver Houlberg, who successfully achieved 2 A*s in Maths and Physics and an A in Chemistry and has secured his place to study medicine at the University of Birmingham, also spoke of his delight. He said: “I feel very happy to see the hard work pay off and very excited for the next stages.”

Teachers are echoing the students’ delight.

Gareth Smith, principal at Okehampton College, said: “We are so proud of our students and what they have achieved in their 7 years at Okehampton College. The hard work of both the students and staff at our school is unparalleled. I wish everyone luck with their future endeavours and I hope that everyone keeps in touch and tells us about all of their successes.”

James Buchanan, principal at Tavistock College, said: “We are so incredibly proud of the hard work and commitment demonstrated by our young people.

“Our students have achieved an incredible set of A Level results this year, reflecting their hard work, determination and the unwavering support of our sixth form team.”

The students will now progress to a wide range of universities, including Cambridge, Oxford, Exeter, Warwick, York, Bristol and Southampton. Others are set to begin apprenticeships at organisations such as British Car Auctions.
