FIREFIGHTERS were called to a road traffic collision (RTC) on the A3072 at Hatherleigh on Monday morning, with reports of a person trapped in a vehicle.

Crews from Hatherleigh and Okehampton and the heavy rescue vehicle attended the incident just after 6am. A casualty was released prior to the arrival of the fire service and crews rendered first aid to the casualty and made the vehicle safe.

Fire crews were called to Hatherleigh again later that day following another RTC. Three cars were involved in a collision on the A386 near Hatherleigh on Monday afternoon, with one person trapped inside a vehicle and a number of other casualties.

Crews from Hatherleigh and Okehampton attended just after 4pm and on arrival requested the help of a third crew. Police and ambulance personnel were also requested to attend.

One person was still trapped inside a vehicle and there were other walking wounded casualties. The crews released the casualty trapped in the car using hydraulic cutting tools and treated four other members of the public using first aid techniques. The casualties were transferred to hospital.
